We're looking for an Engineering Training Standards Officer to help us make a difference to our planet.
As our Engineering Training Standards Officer, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.
Our opportunity is full time, 37 hours per week, based in Exeter HQ.

Your world of expertise
It is essential that the engineering teams are kept up to date with all legislative requirements and able to adapt to the changing needs of the Met Office.
Working within our Transition Solutions Team (TST), you will play a vital role ensuring our engineers are fully trained and able to work on current and future sensors. You will also help shape our on-going engineering apprenticeships and take the lead in the delivery of the Engineering Expo, which is a collaborative event for our engineering profession.
Your key duties:
- Lead and influence the development of training packages, including identification of improvements to align with new systems, capabilities, legislation and/or process.
- Use existing and emerging engineering practice to (alongside the task managers) aid the development of the work plans for our engineering apprenticeships. Ensuring these align with the training provider.
- Lead and manage the generation and presentation of documentation and reports internally and externally in order to meet the needs of the customer and the Met office, including; maintaining training requirements and records, impact of new and/or changing legislation and our alignment to the apprenticeship standards.
- Lead the development and delivery of the annual Engineering Expo, helping share engineering knowledge whilst building a strong engineering community.
- Lead on maintaining our relationship with the IET, managing the engineering apprenticeship accreditation whilst also developing our Engineering STEM/Outreach activities.

As our Engineering Training Standards Officer , your total reward package will be up to £58,419 annually, which includes:
- £41,725 base pay
- An outstanding Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 28.97%
- Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA) you will be paid £3600 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. Whilst in post, you will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2024 until September 2025 in your monthly pay
- Annual Leave starting at 27.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) rising to 32.5 days (plus Bank Holidays) after 5 years and option to buy or sell up to 5 days per year of annual leave
